How to Work Protein Drinks Into Your Day

Protein drinks as a horse groom

No time to sit down and deal with utensils? Kimberly Maloomian has some tips on still getting all the nutrients you need but in an easy, liquid form.

“An option outside of food is always a protein drink. I myself don’t really fancy the taste of them, but many people survive just fine on them.”

Individual Packets of Protein Powder

“Individual packets of protein powder travel great; they never go bad and all you have to do is add liquid! Bring a shaker bottle with you, grab some milk or vegan milk substitute from the hotel – or pour some water into your bottle with the powder – and shake it up.”

Premade Protein Drinks

“An alternative to shaking them up yourself is buying a case of premade ones. I think that the Orgain brand is a really good one; many of my patients also like Premier Protein as there are more flavors, and they are more readily available.

I have also had patients order a case of protein shakes on Amazon and had them sent to the hotel they would be staying at so that they were there upon the patient’s arrival.”

Magic Bullet Blender

“If protein drinks are your favorite thing, I would invest $25 in a small Magic Bullet-type blender that can easily be packed in your travel bag. It does a much better job of blending up your powder and milk, and if you want to add anything else like a banana or peanut butter you can.”
